In line with the governments’ strong ‘stay at home’ message, veterinary practices are remaining open to focus on providing services that are essential for animal health and welfare or public health, including to relieve pain and suffering.
We will risk assess each case and exercise our clinical and professional judgement to decide whether face-to-face treatment or care is essential at this time, whether services could be provided remotely, or whether treatment can be safely postponed until after the lockdown. Remote services, such as teleconsultations, will be charged for.
Please always call the practice first to arrange the best approach to meet your pet’s needs at this time. As with all aspects of life during the Covid-19 pandemic, you should follow social distancing measures when interacting with your veterinary surgery. This will mean you needing to wait outside and allow your vet to assess your pet alone.
Across the UK, members of the public must, by law, wear a face covering in veterinary practices, unless they are exempt for age, health, or equality reasons. We request that everyone wears a face covering when accessing our services.
Vets are working hard to balance animal health and welfare, public health, your safety and the safety of their teams. As always, decisions will vary between practices and in different parts of the country.
We’re asking the public to respect our veterinary teams and understand that they are doing their very best in difficult circumstances.
We are delaying all annual boosters until they are nearing 15 months and our reminders will be sent with these new timings. If your pet’s booster is approaching 15 months since the last one we are able to continue the protection afforded by vaccinations. We are permitted to perform all primary courses for kittens and puppies. As a practice we have taken the decision to delay dog castrations unless there is a medical reason. Cat neutering and bitch spays are permitted.
In some cases we will initially assess the animal remotely via a telephone consultation. This will be chargable as normal. If we then decide that your pet needs to be seen there will be no further charge for this physical examination.
If you are self-isolating due to having or being in contact with coronavirus we request you do not come to the surgery so that we can keep our other clients and staff safe.
