Laboratory

Rapid testing to speed up diagnosis

Why Laboratory tests are important

When our vets need more information about the function of your pet’s organs we may take a blood sample. We can test this blood sample at our Laboratory in Dawlish. We will check the liver and kidney function. We also check the level of red blood cells and white blood cells.

In house laboratory speeds up results

Many vets have to send off blood samples and this can take 24-48 hours for a result. Our full wet chemistry laboratory machine is the same as some of these specialist laboratories. Our trained nurses can test your pets’ blood the same day. We will often have results within hours and for emergencies within 30 minutes. This speed can save lives by giving us a diagnosis faster so we can start treatment.

Biochemistry Testing

Full wet biochemistry analyser allows us to rapidly test:

  • Kidney function.
  • Liver function.
  • Blood protein levels.

Haematology Testing

  • Red Blood Cell Count.
  • White Blood Cell Count.
  • Types of White Blood Cell.

Electrolytes Testing

Senior Health Checks

We recommend all dogs and cats over 8 years old have a regular health check.  This may also include a blood sample.  As our pets get older the kidneys and liver may start to struggle.  Sometimes it can be a long time before problems are obvious.  Early diagnosis is important.  Early treatment can extend life hugely and increase quality of life as well.

Repeat Prescription Checks

Pet’s on long term medication may be more prone to problems. Therefore, blood tests should be performed regularly to check for side effects. We can offer these tests at a discount to owners who purchase medications from us.

Benefits of registration

Access to our in house laboratory is another benefit of registration.  If your pet needs a blood test quickly can your vet offer such a comprehensive service?  Register your pet with us now to benefit from this service.
